  • Southern NH Ukulele Group to Host Workshop with Jim D’Ville

The Southern New Hampshire Ukulele Group (SNHUG) is thrilled to present a very special afternoon workshop with internationally renowned ukulele educator Jim D’Ville on Sunday, September 28 at 2:00 PM at Milk Street Studios, Dover, NH.
Jim D’Ville is a music educator and facilitator whose mission is to help ukulele players get “off the paper” and learn to play music by ear. For nearly two decades, Jim has taught his acclaimed Play Ukulele By Ear workshops to tens of thousands of players across the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. He has appeared at major events such as the Ukulele Festival of Scotland, Kerrville Folk Festival, The NAMM Show, Melbourne Ukulele Festival, and West Coast Ukulele Retreat, among many others.
Jim is the author of the Play Ukulele By Ear DVD series and hosts the popular website PlayUkuleleByEar.com. He also runs Pop Up Uke on Patreon, is a contributing editor to Ukulele Magazine, and is sponsored in part by Ukulele Magazine and Aquila Strings of Italy.
The upcoming workshop, “How Songs Work,” is open to players of all levels. In this session, Jim will explain how the chords associated with the seven notes of a major scale, when played in context, evoke specific emotional responses from the listener. By understanding these chordal relationships, participants will unlock the progressions behind millions of songs—a powerful first step toward truly playing by ear. This is Jim’s signature workshop, and it promises to change the way participants listen to and play music.
