Dover, Rollinsford and South Berwick Lions Club Presents Berwick Academy Scholarship Award to Leila Beakes

The Dover, Rollinsford, and South Berwick Lions Club was honored to present its first-Berwick Academy Scholarship Award  during the Senior Awards Ceremony on May 29. Representing the club and presenting the awards were members of the Lions Club Scholarship Committee John Symington and June Pinkham.

“We were pleased with the response we had and hope that we receive even more applications in future years,” said John Symington. “The packages received were all very good and independently reviewed by our Scholarship Committee.”

The recipient of this year’s Berwick Academy Scholarship Award was Leila Beakes.

Leila is currently involved in Environmental Sustainability for her area of study which directly aligns with the environmental focus of the Lions Club.  Leila has been on service trips to Kenya and West Virginia and is also involved in her community, school sports, and mentoring.  She will continue her studies at Dickinson College with the goal of making a lasting contribution to environmental change.

The Lions Club extends its warmest congratulations to Leila Beakes and looks forward to continuing their tradition of supporting local youth in their educational journeys.

The Lions Club of Dover, Rollinsford and South Berwick is a member of the Lions Club International, which began in 1917.  Their motto is “We Serve.”  The club gathers on the 1^st and 3^rd Wednesday of each month at Cara Irish Pub in Dover.
