Summer Music Series at Governor's InnDescription
Three months and over forty performances of free, live music are planned for the Summer Music Series at The Governor?s Inn. Now hitting its eleventh year, the series has expanded to run four evenings a week, Thursday through Sunday and will run June 14th - August 29th. A mix of acoustic, alternative, Americana, folk, blues, bluegrass, rock and roots is scheduled weekly - some bands local but others coming from across New England.
Several new acts are scheduled, and many popular bands ? by demand - will return to the Inn including Cormac McCarthy, Poor Howard Stith, The George Brown Band, The Crunchy Western Boys, Dancing Madly Backwards, Wooden Eye, Truffle, and Erin Harpe & The Delta Swingers.
New acts include Lenny McLaughlin, Jennifer Mitchell, Amulus, The Soggy Po? Boys, Cold Chocolate, Bad Wolf, and the Moot Davis band among other top level groups.
While smaller acoustic acts will play street side on Thursdays and Fridays evenings from the Inn?s light stage on the front lawn, larger bands are booked on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. Those acts often come from far and wide and have a wider musical range, including percussion, horns, or other instruments ? performing from the large new sound stage in the garden behind The Garage at the Governor?s Inn. There guests may be served at garden tables or bring their own lawn blankets or chairs and play horseshoes, croquet or bocce ball and enjoy the expansive, lush old world estate. All concerts are rain or shine events with inclement weather options inside or under tent.
Except for an all-day Reggae Festival on August 2, all concerts at The Rochester Summer Music Series are FREE, made possible in part by the local sponsors listed below. Donations to the larger bands are encouraged on Saturdays and Sundays. Food and drink are available at all Governor?s Inn concerts, with the option of counter or full table service.
New: ?Articulture Market? on Sundays afternoons, simultaneous to the Sunday concerts. This is where agriculture will meet art, where local farmers and artisans alike will sell their wares ? real tomatoes and cukes along with pottery, paintings and homemade jewelry. Offering vendors free booths for the first season, The Governor?s Inn will run the market simultaneous to the Sunday Concerts, from 4 to 7pm.
