About the artist:
Shaina Gates lives and works in Exeter, New Hampshire. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design for her BFA in Painting (2005), the School of Visual Arts NY for an MA (2008), and the University of Pennsylvania for her MFA (2016). Her studio practice is mainly based in painting and drawing, along with some experimental writing and 3-dimensional work.
Gates states: My recent work stems from images related to certain topological, geometric, and physics-based theorems. I make drawings and paintings of folded/crumpled paper that has been manipulated in various ways, according to the proposals in these studies.
