  • Zebra Crossings names new executive director

DOVER - Seacoast area nonprofit Zebra Crossings is excited to announce the selection of Debra Taylor as its next Executive Director, effective January 2023. She is the third Executive Director for the organization that was founded in 2009 and has built a strong reputation as a valued provider of empowerment programs for youth with chronic medical conditions and their families.

Ms. Taylor brings strong credentials as a leader, growth strategist, and fundraiser to this position. She will work with the staff and Board of Directors to continue and expand the camp program offerings and the positive, life-shaping adventures that are always part of the Zebra Crossings experiences.

“Deb is a dynamic and energetic leader with a clear passion for our mission. Her warmth, empathy for families facing adversity, and her excitement for what Zebra Crossings can become were evident during our search process,” said Board President Eileen Sewall. “The Board is excited to work with Deb as our new Executive Director and confident that Zebra Crossings will continue to expand our presence in the Seacoast area, and to expand our footprint beyond our current geographic reach.”

Prior to joining Zebra Crossings, Ms. Taylor was President and CEO of Sweetser, one of Maine's oldest and most comprehensive behavioral health and developmental service organizations. She began her career in healthcare, working for nearly a decade with a home health agency. She joined Sweetser in 2000, holding positions of increasing responsibility during her 21 years there, spending 14 years as a member of the executive leadership team.

With a long professional history serving disadvantaged populations and having served on several nonprofit boards, Ms. Taylor feels that becoming the leader of Zebra Crossings will be a rewarding next step in her career. "After stepping back from my full-time role at Sweetser, I am thrilled to be able to contribute my talents to a well-respected, mission-driven organization."
