  • Pinwheels for Prevention 2021 faqs for club members and friends

    What is Pinwheels for Prevention?

Pinwheels for Prevention is an awareness program sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse America during National Child Abuse Prevention Month held every April.  Pinwheels are a reminder that we all play a role in children’s lives.

    Who is PCA?

Prevent Child Abuse America is the nation’s oldest and largest organization committed to preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens. We promote programs and resources informed by science that enable kids, families, and entire communities to thrive—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

At Prevent Child Abuse America, we work hard to realize our vision of a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities.

PCA provides parents and caregivers a wide variety of services and resources in communities across the country, develops innovative research, raises public awareness and engagement and advocates for family friendly policies to support programs that ensure children and families get what they need to succeed. “

PCA America is also a national Affiliate and non-profit partner of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

    Why Pinwheels?

“In 2008 Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. What our research showed, and what our experiences since then have reinforced, is that people respond positively to pinwheels, which represent childlike whimsy and lightheartedness and our vision for a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities.

Whether you are business enacting policies that impact the work-life balance of your employees or a neighbor who offers a respite from the demands of parenting, we all have an effect on the lives of children.”

Who is the NH Children’s Trust?

The NH Children’s Trust is our NH state chapter organization for Prevent Child Abuse America.  NHCT has been a great friend of our local GFWC clubs, providing wonderful educational materials, speakers and, yes, pinwheels.

“New Hampshire Children’s Trust is also the Governor’s designated statewide community-based child abuse prevention agency, and a member of the National Alliance of Children’s Trust & Prevention Funds.

We ensure parents have easy access to high-quality resources and support to help children develop the skills they need to thrive. We educate direct-service professionals, advocate for better policies to support parents, and connect with local agencies to strengthen families and lay the foundation for children's success.

New Hampshire Children’s Trust is leading the drive to ensure safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments for children by educating, advocating, and collaborating.”

Who is GFWC and GFWC Dover Area Woman’s Club?

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With nearly 80,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state, the District of Columbia, and more than a dozen countries, GFWC members work in their own communities to support the arts, preserve natural resources, advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding.

GFWC Dover Area Woman’s Club is a proud member of GFWC. With a wide variety of club projects supporting our community, we also support the work of many partners including NHCT.  Each April we love planting Pinwheels for Prevention gardens to raise awareness.  We always welcome new members throughout the year.
