For the last 30 years, Dover Kiwanis has provided new winter boots to children in the community. The signature program has kept thousands of little feet warm and dry in the cold New England winters. This year, the organization provided more than 100 new pairs of boots to kids in the area.
"Donating boots is tougher than collecting coats, mittens or gloves," said Dover Kiwanis President William Burr. "We can't ask people to donate the boots on their own, as the boots need to fit the kids. We never know in advance each year what the need will be."
Dover Kiwanis works closely with elementary school officials in Dover, Somersworth and Rollinsford, who alert the club to families in their districts who need assistance.
"We are committed to meeting all requests and find that every year more and more children are in need. It's thanks to the dedicated members of Dover Kiwanis and the generosity of the Seacoast community that we can assist local families and for more than three decades they have come through," added Burr.
Dover Kiwanis purchases the boots through donations made by local businesses and individuals. This year's donors included AE Alie & Sons; Alexander's Restaurant; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 8; Burns Security; DF Richard; F.W. Webb; Garrison City Equipment Management; James F Flynn Insurance Agency; Jewelry Creations; Lynch Insurance; McIntyre-McCooey Funeral Home; Profile Bank; Reddy Family Chiropractic; Relyco; Somersworth Storage; Sons of the American Legion Squadron 8; Strafford Appliance; Tasker Funeral Home; Tri City Subaru; and Wyskiel, Boc, Tillingham & Bolduc PA.
