  • Art Center showcasing a fine selection

The Award-Winning Art Center in downtown Dover, NH is showcasing a fine selection of local artists with its artist members’ show on display for the month of February. The show opens with two of Robert Weinstein’s impressive pastel works. On the left of the gallery are the mind boggling works of up and comer Brian Wagoner and longtime member Beth Wittenberg. Prospero Eaton returns with three new works based on his favorite subject, cats. But, these are not your typical cute cat pictures, these are amazing contemporary pieces that seem delve into the psyche. The rest of the main floor of the exhibit sports excellent work from resident artists Doug and Nettie Vaughan, Stephen Godlieb, Juleen Stacy and Tim Gilbert and new Art Center members, photographer Vera Kaufman and painter Deborah Janelle. Also highlighted are two works by the first winner of the 2020 Art Center Artist in Residence Program, Sarah M. Cassani.

The Art Center is unique in that it has a stage which is used for a variety of purposes: musical recitals, poetry readings, plays, and most recently, a wedding. For this exhibit, Eddie Langlois’ mixed-media sculpture ‘Kite Boy’ seems in flight as visitors mount the steps to the stage area. Three of his other mix-media works arrest your attention while inviting a closer look.  On the right of the stage are the beautiful floral paintings of JoAnn Rohde and to the left are new pieces by Seth Hamor who has expanded his artistic repertoire to include dendritic prints. Alisa Marie continues her lovely atmospheric waxwork paintings and Beverly Perkins Tower shows ‘Bull’s Eye’ which harkens to her strong body of existing work and a new piece ‘Maine Winter 2020’ in painted in acrylic, perhaps signifying an exciting new direction for this artist’s creativity.
