    Job Description
    COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
    (Full-time)
     
    POSITION OVERVIEW:
     
    The Communications Specialist works under the direction of the President or designee and in collaboration with Chamber staff. This position is responsible for contributing to the Chamber’s brand and image by developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the Chamber’s internal and external communications, marketing, and public relations programs, policies, and protocols. The Communications Specialist must be an excellent writer and pay exceptional attention to detail. It is critical that he/she understand the importance of targeted communications, including how to write for a specific audience and select the most effective communications medium for that audience. The Communications Specialist must also understand the importance of consistency in communications – in her/his writing and design and that of Chamber staff to ensure brand continuity. He/she must be committed to staying current on the research and new uses of communications technologies, social media and software and should feel comfortable recommending new strategies and applications to the President and staff.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
     
    1. Develops and implements a comprehensive communications program and annual calendar for the Chamber that identifies audiences, messages, communications tools and evaluation measures. 
     
    2. Researches, drafts for approval, and disseminates timely and accurate Chamber-related information to the membership and public through various outlets including, but not limited to, social media, email notifications, media releases, newsletters, articles, special presentations, reports and other related channels. 
     
    3. Assists in the development of an annual communications budget and solicits sponsors, advertisers, and underwriters for communications vehicles as needed.
     
    4. Monitors and updates the Chamber’s various social media accounts, pages, and groups on all applicable platforms. Oversees the development and maintenance of the Chamber’s websites.
     
    5. Evaluates and measures mobile and social media program success and impact; monitors trends in social media tools, applications and appropriately applies that knowledge to increasing the use of social media for the Chamber. Support and employ other evaluation techniques such as on-line surveys.
     
    6. Ensures that a collection of electronic file materials is maintained, such as photographs and other informational material, for use in Chamber efforts in promotion, education and recruitment.
     
    7. Assists with Chamber events as needed. Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and the Chamber’s mission.
     
    8. Occasional attendance at night meetings and weekend work is required.
     
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
     
    Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications, public relations, digital marketing, or related field. At least two years of work experience and demonstrated success in a communications role that includes social media preferred. Experience working with a website content management system (preferably Constant Contact). Experience working with an email marketing system. Experience using social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Media relations experience, including writing press releases, building media lists, and collecting media mentions.
     
    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
     
    Exceptional writing and editing skills, including the ability to write for a variety of audiences and communications mediums. Excellent organizational skills, able to multi-task and set priorities, and comfortable with asking for help or reconsideration of priorities. Extremely detail oriented and comfortable developing and/or working with project plans/timelines. Flexible and able to work effectively under pressure and deadlines. Tech savvy and strong problem-solving skills. Creative and resourceful. Ability to work collaboratively with members, vendors, and Chamber staff and board. Flexibility for after-hours meetings, deadline demands, and events.
