  • SRPC seeks applicants for Economic Recovery Coordinator

    Strafford Regional Planning Commission seeks a qualified professional for the position of Economic Recovery Coordinator.  Working closely with dedicated planning staff, this position focuses on implementing SRPC’s EDA CARES Act grant through providing direct technical assistance to member communities, stakeholders, and businesses on issues related to economic development, economic resiliency, and adaptive strategies in response to COVID-19. The successful candidate will deliver professional planning and technical expertise through direct communications and constituent services with SRPC municipalities and the business community.

    Required Education & Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in public affairs/public policy; business administration; economic development; city, urban and/or regional planning; public health; resource economics; political science, or closely related fields and 4+ years of relevant experience, OR Master’s degree in any of the above (or closely related) fields with 2+ years of experience

    Primary Responsibilities

    Economic Recovery Coordination

    • Serve as a liaison between local, state, and federal agencies and organizations
    • Identify and foster additional partnerships: governmental, private sector, and non-profit
    • Monitor and disseminate federal, state, and local resources
    • Engage constituents through social and traditional media
    • Contact businesses, distribute economic and demographic information to stakeholders, respond to citizen inquiries, and collaborate with partners to promote the region and its economy
    • Develop marketing and related materials for the District and support the District’s web presence with assistance from the agency’s Communications and Outreach Planner(s)
    • Keep accurate records of meetings hosted and stakeholders engaged for the purposes of federal grant administration and reporting requirements

    Local Technical Assistance

    • Identify gaps in available information and prepare materials designed to fill those gaps
    • Help municipalities to assess community needs, scope and refine projects to address those needs, and identify funding sources to implement those projects
    • Provide direct technical assistance to businesses, either alone or in coordination with partners
    • Prepare and/or coordinate educational materials and trainings for diverse audiences 

    Economic Development

    • Develop local economic resilience plans in coordination with SRPC and municipal staff, partner organizations, volunteers, and stakeholders
    • Develop a regional economic resilience plan in coordination with SRPC staff to be incorporated into the SEDD’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS)
    • Assist with annual solicitation of projects for CEDS project list
    • Assist with development and maintenance of the region’s 5-Year CEDS and Annual Updates
    • Gather, interpret, and prepare data for studies, reports, and recommendations coordinating activities with other municipal departments and agencies as needed

     General Responsibilities

    • Assist the Senior Regional Planner (Economic Development) with grant administration, reporting, and match tracking as necessary
    • Prepare written reports summarizing research and analysis findings.
    • Assist with outreach efforts to support planning projects.
    • Attend trainings and workshops as necessary.
    • Accept other responsibilities assigned by the Senior Regional Planner (Economic Development) and the Executive Director.

    Required Qualifications

    • Hands-on experience with economic development, public policy, business administration, and/or regional planning including the of the application of federal, state, and local regulations to planning, zoning, and business operation
    • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of state, regional, and local agencies and boards, and have the ability to form successful partnerships with said agencies and boards.
    • Ability to develop a close working relationship with all sectors of the community
    • Ability to serve as a meeting coordinator and facilitator
    • Ability to adapt quickly to changing information, scenarios, and regulations
    • Strategic and analytical capabilities – a problem solver
    • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
    • Team orientation and personal accountability
    • Must be fluent in Microsoft Office Suite

    Additional Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Census and other economic/demographic datasets
    • Statistical analysis skills

    Special Requirements

    This position involves meetings outside of normal business hours and may require travel and/or remote connection for meetings and public engagement. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required. If authorized for telework, the Economic Recovery Coordinator must agree to all telework procedures including provision of an ergonomic workstation and a reliable internet connection.
