The Thom Hindle Gallery is slated to open its August and September exhibition, “Life in Liminal Spaces,” on August 3. The show, which runs until the end of September, will feature the artwork of New England artists Nico LeBarge and Elizabeth Hollinger.
The art opening reception will be held on Friday, August 3 from 6-9pm. The event is free to the public.
Nico LeBarge, originally of New York, currently resides in western Maine. Nico takes inspiration from the mountains and small-town life which bleed into her seemingly vacant landscapes. Her work, in the pop-surrealist tradition, often depicts buildings and spaces that are dilapidated and chaotic. The artist writes that her paintings are “about rural America, overlooked in a technologically progressive society, where the secret spaces, old architecture, and the stories of the lives within them are left behind.” Nico graduated in 2010 with an MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art.
Elizabeth Hollinger was born in New Zealand, raised in New Hampshire, and studied illustration at Pratt Institute of Art and Design in Brooklyn, New York. Her work combines modern elements and ideas with the natural world and its inhabitants. Using a variety of traditional mediums, Elizabeth explores the complex and often fragile relationships we as humankind have with the wildlife that coexist alongside us.
The Thom Hindle Gallery, located at 15 Summer St., Dover, NH, is free to the public and open during normal the Woodman Museum’s normal business hours (10am-5pm, Wednesday through Sunday). All consignment artwork is available for purchase.
