Waterfront Map...

The City owned land on the waterfront is bordered by the river on the left and top of this topographical map, by the Maglaras Park ball fields on the right and by the Paul Street/Wallingford Street neighborhood at the bottom.

If you are not familiar with reading a topographical map, the wavy blue/gray lines on the map above are called contour lines.  Contour lines connect equal points of elevation. They indicate the degree of elevation of the land and also define the shape of the land.  The lines are closer together as the slope leading up to the top of the elevation gets steeper .  On this map, every time you go up one contour line you go up 10 feet. Every time you go down one contour line you go down 10 feet.  For example,  the "PROPOSED CONDO SITE" is on an upside down U-shaped plateau about 70-100 feet above the pumping station "PS."   The "PRIVATELY OWNED" parcel is located on a relatively flat plateau at the top of an upside down V-shaped elevation about 100-150 feet above the river bank. The wide spacing between the lines along the river indicates very little elevation and very little slope on the bank of the river.

The former Public Works Facility was housed in two buildings on the flat space just down river from the pumping station.  The sewer pumping station is at the end of River Street and is designated "PS" on the map.  The only public works building left on the site is designated "CS" on the map and is a metal building that is being used for storage.

The "PROPOSED CONDO SITE" is behind the existing cluster of condominiums and will be accessed via Henry Law Avenue and Paul Street.

Zoning is designated in large capital letters such as UMUD (Urban Multi-use District), RM10 (Multi-family Residential), CWD (Cochecho Waterfront District). The entire waterfront parcel is zoned CWD.  The zoning allows a number of uses including business and residential.

The "PRIVATELY OWNED" parcel in the middle of the city-owned land is the old county jail site.
