GREATER DOVER CHAMBER
PURCHASES FUTURE HOME

DOVER,
NH - August 31, 2007 - The Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce recently purchased the
property at 550 Central Avenue as a site for the future home of the
Chamber. Since the late 1980’s, the Chamber’s Board of Directors has
been considering potential new locations for the Chamber office.
When the Board learned that that Unicel was looking for new space in
Dover, and that their building was for sale, Board members
unanimously decided to move forward with the purchase.
Chambers of Commerce are known for being community information
centers. The Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce has been providing
that service to thousands of visitors and area residents each year
who visit the Chamber to request maps and information on things to
see and do in the Greater Dover area as well as information about
products and services offered by Chamber members. The amount of
information available is growing; therefore, the need for a larger
space. Also, as technology improves, more people look to Chambers to
provide computerized information. The new location will allow space
for a computer kiosk that will provide additional information about
products and services available in the greater Dover area.
The
Board believes the more central location (at the intersection of
Central Avenue, Chestnut Street and Sixth Street) will make the
Chamber more easily accessible and visible
to members and the public. It will also provide convenient parking,
will enable the Chamber to upgrade and modernize its facility, and
provide improved signage for Chamber and community events.
Stephen Viel, Chairman of the Board of the Greater Dover Chamber of
Commerce, says, “This is an exciting step for the Chamber, and the
Board is looking forward to ensuring the Chamber’s new home will be
an asset to its members, the business community and the citizens of
the Greater Dover area.”
The Chamber will be working with UNICEL, the current
tenant of the building, to ensure a smooth transition as Unicel
continues to look for a new location in Dover.
Assisting in the purchase for the Chamber were Wes Tator of Grubb
and Ellis/Coldstream Real Estate Advisors, Inc. and Carol Boc of
Winsor Brook Property Advisors.
