What is the Purpose?

To honor and demonstrate appreciation to a local teacher for excellence in education.

Who is eligible?

Nominees must be full-time teachers in grades K-12 in the Dover, New Hampshire Public School System or full-time teachers in a Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce member private school for the 2007-2008 school year. Nominees must plan to continue in an active teaching status next year.

Who can nominate a teacher?

Anyone can nominate a teacher for the awards…a student, a parent, another teacher, a principal, a supervisor or a member of the community. An individual may nominate only one person for the award. Teachers may not nominate themselves. Nominations may include up to four letters of support from among the following: superintendent, principal, headmaster, colleague, student, former student, parent or member of the community. These letters should describe the attributes that your nominee possesses that make him/her a really outstanding teacher and well respected by colleagues, parents, students and the total community.

What are the criteria for selecting the Teacher of the Year?

A panel of judges will review the nominations and select the award recipient(s). Nominees must be teachers who:

  • Have daily contact with students and inspire them to learn and achieve.
  • Understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents and help build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students.
  • Have participated in making a positive contribution to the community.
  • Have demonstrated participation and leadership in professional development activities and fostered cooperative relationships with colleagues
